I am a DONA certified doula in practice since 2000, a Birthing From Within trained childbirth educator and a master's level psychologist specializing in women's issues, including but not limited to infertility, prenatal, birth, and postpartum counseling. I'm also a married mother of four. Autumn (1990) was born in a hospital with an OB, Blake (1993) was born in a birth center with a Nurse-Midwife, and Zoe (2001) and Dmitrios (2002) were born at home with lay midwives, so I have a large spectrum of personal birth experiences! |

Birth is normal. I believe that women were made to birth with minimal intervention, and that most of the time, this can be done without complications if nature is left to her own devices. As a doula, I provide emotional, physical, and educational support for you throughout your pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum. My goal is to help you attain the birth you want, whatever that looks like for you. This includes things such as birth planning, attending a visit with your caregiver if you like, a large lending library, a packet of information provided for your perusal, community referrals and resources, among other things! During a birth, I am there as you and your partner's support as well as your advocate. If you wish, I can and will advocate for your wishes if you are unable, as determined in your birth plan. And if your wishes change during your birth (for example, if you decide you want an epidural when you previously had not wanted one) I will help you understand all of your available options so that you can make the best decision possible for you and your family. I believe the best way to ensure you'll have a satisfying birth experience is through education, awareness, and effective communication between families and care providers and my number-one priority is helping you have the birth you want, no matter what that kind of birth may be. |
